I have recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both my knees. However, my left knee is significantly worse than my right, so I find that I need to keep compression on it and give it more support. I have a pair of closed neoprene sleeves--also from Braceability--but I found that the discomfort from pressure on my patella would force me to remove the sleeves after a little while, so I started looking at open patella sleeves. I finally settled on this one because it was open in both the front and back, it came in sizes that I knew would fit me, and because it appeared to have a flat enough profile that it would fit under ordinary pants such as jeans. When I got the sleeve I was initially a little dubious because it seemed a little light; the openings for the patella are not reinforced. However, I find that it is working for me. I'm able to wear it all day without discomfort and my knee feels better with it. It's not a stability brace but my knee does feel more stable while wearing it. I'm already planning to buy a second sleeve so that I'll have a pair; my slightly stronger right knee is feeling neglected. If you're needing a good bit of support for stability or support for the patella, this isn't the sleeve for you. But if you're like me needing light support and compression, this is a good option.
