For hot therapy: First, lay the gel pack flat in the microwave. Heat for 75 seconds, based on a 1200W microwave. Remove the pack from the microwave and check the temperature to make sure it is at a desired temperature. Temperature will continue to rise slightly. If additional heat is desired, put the pack back in the microwave for a maximum of 10 seconds. Then wrap the gel pack in a towel and apply to the affected area. If the gel pack is too hot, remove the pack from the body and re-apply when the temperature is acceptable.
Make sure to watch the gel pack while heating. If the gel pack expands, turn off the microwave. Do not reheat product for more than twice in 1 hour. If additional heat treatment is required, you should wait for an hour before reheating the pack. Some parts in the pack may get too hot after heating in the microwave so use caution when removing the pack.
You can also boil the pack to warm it up. First, bring a pan of water to a boil and then remove from the heat. Then carefully place the pack in the hot water. After about 8-10 minutes, remove the pack from the water with tongs. Wrap the gel pack in a towel and apply to affected area.
For cold therapy: Place the gel pack in the freezer for at least 1 hour. Then remove the pack from the freezer and wrap in a towel. Test the temperature for comfort level and then apply to affected area.
